Torino and Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has heaped praise on Inter shot-stopper Andre Onana, as he prepares to face the Cameroonian in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Serbia look to bounce back from their opening game 2-0 defeat to Brazil when they face a Cameroon side who also suffered defeat, in a 1-0 loss to Switzerland, at the Al Janoub Stadium in Group G tomorrow.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Doha ahead of the match, and as reported by L’, Milinkovic-Savic spoke highly of Onana and felt that he had shown his quality to force captain Samir Handanovic out of the team.

“I think he’s an excellent goalkeeper, he has a brilliant future ahead of him. He succeeded in taking Handanovic’s place, today I think he’s stronger than the Slovenian,” the 25-year-old declared.

Milinkovic-Savic impressed during Serbia’s defeat to Brazil and admitted that he took confidence from the praise he had received, but just wanted the team to progress.

“The compliments help me to have faith in myself, but the match against Brazil didn’t give us any points, so I can’t help but look forward,” he added.

Onana joined Inter from Ajax on a free transfer last summer and has made 13 appearances for the Nerazzurri in all competitions, having established himself ahead of veteran Handanovic.
