Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano believes that Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie would be an ideal replacement for Alessandro Bastoni at the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInterNews, Cassano noted that the 20-year-old Ecuadorian defender’s performances for his national team at the World Cup impressed him as being at the level required for Inter.

Cassano has made no secret of the fact that he has some major doubts about the quality of Bastoni.

The former forward has suggested in the past that the 23-year-old former Atalanta defender is a player who the Nerazzurri should cash on given that there is a need for the club to bring in a fee from a big transfer.

In the view of Cassano, Hincapie could be exactly the right man to take over from Basoni on the left of Inter’s back three.

“I was watching Ecuador, and I told Lele Adani that if I were at the Nerazzurri, I would let Alessandro Bastoni leave and sign Piero Hincapie.”

“He’s twenty, and a really top-class left-sided defender.”

“I’ve already told my friends that he should be signed, although they’ve told me that Bayer Leverkusen don’t let players go for cheap.”

“But he really impressed me, he has quality as well as a bit of ruthlessness.”
