Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has been named as one of the most disappointing players so far at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar by Italian media.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, brand the 25-year-old’s performances for Argentina so far to be a flop, although they note that he has received limited service from an Albiceleste team who have not been at their best.

Martinez went into this tournament with big expectations on his shoulders, as the Nerazzurri player is the first-choice centre-forward for an Argentina team who are among the favourites to win the entire tournament.

However, the 25-year-old’s performances have been underwhelming, as he has failed to get on the scoresheet up to this point.

The Corriere della Sera do make the caveat that Argentina have struggled to put together fluid attacks which create high-quality chances for their striker.

However, the newspaper nevertheless argues that Martinez must do a lot better even with what he’s given if he’s to live up the expectations for him in Qatar.
