Inter striker Lautaro Martinez will be benched in the Argentine national team’s starting eleven for their World Cup group stage clash with Poland this evening.

This is confirmed by the official lineup announcement by the Argentine FA, which does not include the Nerazzurri striker, with Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez starting in his place in attack.

Martinez had started both of Argentina’s prior two group stage matches, a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia and then a 2-0 win over Mexico.

The Inter striker failed to score or assist a goal in either of the two matches.

Albiceleste has decided to turn to Alvarez instead of the 25-year-old, with the Man City striker starting alongside Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria in attack.

Martinez starts on the bench as Argentina go in search of a result to secure their place in the round of sixteen of the tournament.

Argentina’s starting eleven for the match is as follows:

Argentina (4-3-1-2) Dibu Martínez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuña; De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Mac Allister; Messi; Di María, Julián Álvarez.
