Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries feels that the criticism that he and the Dutch national team have received at the World Cup in Qatar has been understandable.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the 26-year-old didn’t hide from criticism but emphasized the desire to make an impact with a goal or assist in the Oranje’s knockout match against the US on Saturday.

Dumfries and the Netherlands have managed to reach the round of sixteen in Qatar, and even done so top of their group.

However, the sense has been that the Dutch have yet to really live up to their potential, given that their performances were far from spectacular in a group that they were expected to finish top of.

Dumfries specifically has come in for some criticism for his individual performances, which have hardly seen him look at his best in the final third.

“I understand the criticism that we’ve received, and the criticism that I’ve received in particularly,” the Nerazzurri wingback told the press.

“We still have a lot more to give, and I want to play an important role in our next match, with a goal or an assist.”
