Young Inter midfielder Giovanni Fabbian feels that the step up to playing on loan with Reggina in Serie B has been a big one compared to youth team football with the Nerazzurri’s Primavera side last time around.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 19-year-old reflected on his growth so far, also noting a desire to eventually play for Inter’s senior team, and named Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos as his idol.

Fabbian has hardly struggled to make an impact in his first season in senior football.

The young midfielder has proved to be a key player for a Reggina team who are currently second in the Serie B table and in the hunt for promotion.

However, from his perspective, the transition to senior football at this level has been a big one for the 19-year-old.

Of his impact so far, Fabbian said that “It’s surprised everyone a bit.”

“I’ve always believed in myself, but there’s a huge step up between playing in the Primavera compared to stepping up to playing with senior players, in terms of physicality and the tempo of play.”

Asked who his inspirations are, Fabbian named “Ibrahimovic, for his competitive spirit and ruthlessness on the pitch.”

“The midfielder who inspires me the most is Toni Kroos, even if we don’t exactly have the same characteristics,” he added.

And of the possibility of one day making the return to Inter, Fabbian said that “That’s my dream, the one I work towards every day.”

“I want to reach for the absolute highest level, to eventually find myself playing in a top European league and fighting for trophies.”
