After impressing in a deeper midfield role, Hakan Calhanoglu could retain his position as Inter coach Simone Inzaghi looks to utilise him alongside Marcelo Brozovic.

According to L’Interista.it, the Turkey international deputised so effectively during Brozovic’s injury absence that Inzaghi is reluctant to move him back to his more attacking position, and is keen to keep as a deep-lying midfielder going forward.

With Brozovic now back to full fitness following a six-week absence from late September until the end of October, Inzaghi has a decision to make about how he sets up his midfield.

It has been reported that rather than alternate between the two, Inzaghi is ready to adjust his tactics to allow for two deeper midfielders, with Brozovic and Calhanoglu playing next to each other.

Inzaghi is set to use the World Cup break and upcoming friendlies over the coming month to test this tactic and give the two players the opportunity to adjust and impress there.
