Inter are keeping tabs on Sassuolo defender Martin Erlic as they consider making a move for him at the end of the season.

According to FCInterNews.it, the Nerazzurri have sent scouts to watch the Croatia international multiple times this season and have plans to monitor him further once the Serie A season resumes in January.

Inter are thought to be in the market for a new centre-back as they work on contract renewals for Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij, who are both set to become free agents in the summer, whilst Francesco Acerbi is approaching his 35th birthday.

Erlic is considered a player with a high ceiling of growth and with plenty of potential, whilst Inter are drawn to him due to his ability to play in a four-man defence or as a centre-back trio, as well as being able to operate on the right or in the middle.

Meanwhile, Inter’s positive relationship with Erlic’s agent, Beppe Riso, could also aid any attempts to sign him.

The 24-year-old joined Sassuolo from Spezia in 2021 but immediately returned to the Aquilotti on loan, before breaking into Sassuolo’s first team this season.

A Croatian international since June, Erlic has been included in their World Cup squad but is yet to make an appearance in the tournament.
