Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has not enjoyed a positive World Cup in Qatar so far with Argentina, but this does not mean that he is unproven in a national team shirt.

As Argentine news outlet La Nacion highlight, via FCInter1908, the 25-year-old is far from it, and has been his country’s most consistent source of goals in various competitions in qualifying for several years.

Martinez was denied two goals by VAR due to offside decisions in the Albiceleste’s opening group stage loss to Saudi Arabia, whilst in subsequent matches he has failed to score or assist a goal, and has lost his place in the team to Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.

However, the Inter striker has been anything but profligate for Argentina going into the tournament.

As La Nacion highlight, Martinez has scored vital goals in two Copa America tournaments as well as the goals that have secured Argentina qualification for the World Cup in Qatar in the first place.
