Inter could decide to make young midfielder Giovanni Fabbian the replacement for Roberto Gagliardini in their squad next summer.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri are considering recalling the 19-year-old to their senior squad for next season as an option rather than sending him out on loan in Serie A.

Fabbian is currently on loan at Reggina in Serie B.

The 19-year-old joined the Calabrians in the summer, and has been one of the standout players as they have reached second place in the table over the first part of the campaign.

The midfielder has certainly proven himself in senior football so far, and the likely next step would be another loan next season, probably to a team within Serie A, so that he can make the step up.

Another loan at Reggina would be possible if Filippo Inzaghi’s men achieve promotion to the top flight.

However, given that Gagliardini’s current contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2023, and he is not set to sign an extension, the Nerazzurri will be looking for a replacement for him to reinforce their midfield.

Fabbian could be considered ready, whilst recalling him would mean that there would be no need for a transfer fee, and the wage bill could be kept lower.
