Former Hellas Verona and Fiorentina midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro feels that Inter should think twice before considering selling Denzel Dumfries given his tactical importance to the team.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder suggested that Dumfries could be a player who the Nerazzurri would have a difficult time replacing in the event that they were to sell him.

Dumfries has been linked with a possible transfer from Inter in recent weeks and especially the last few days.

The Dutchman’s performances at the World Cup with his national team have seen a likely jump in his price tag.

This could mean that the Nerazzurri would be tempted to cash in on the former PSV wingback in order to meet their well-known financial targets.

However, whilst Dumfries could well be sold on for a significant fee, Di Gennaro is not so sure this would constitute good business for the Nerazzurri given his unique role in their team.

“I wouldn’t let Dumfries go,” the former midfielder said, “he’s important in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 and I’m not sure who would replace him.”

“Sure, he has some bad matches, and a big offer could come along, but he wouldn’t be easy to reaplce.”
