Inter striker Lautaro Martinez could start in attack alongside Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez for Argentina in their FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match against the Netherlands.

This according to Argentina broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews, who report that if Angel Di Maria is not fit for Friday’s match, the Nerazzurri striker could start in a two-striker system with Alvarez in front of Lionel Messi.

Against Australia in the round of sixteen, Martinez started on the bench as Albiceleste coach opted for a front three of Messi, Alvarez, and former Atalanta forward Papu Gomez.

Di Maria was not fit for the clash with Australia, but if the 34-year-old Juventus winger is fit for the match against the Netherlands then he should come in for Gomez.

However, if Di Maria is still injured on Friday, then Scaloni could switch to a two-striker system with both Martinez and Alvarez, whilst Argentina captain Lionel Messi would complete the front three.
