Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is working to gradually recover his best form in time for Inter’s Serie A clash with Napoli next month.

This according to to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the club and the striker are both planning to not rush things ahead of the return to Serie A on the other side of the World Cup break.

Lukaku suffered disappointment in the form of Belgium’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the group stage.

One silver lining for the 29-year-old permanently is that he was not rushed back into action in a way that would compromise his gradual recovery from a thigh injury.

The Belgian has been slowly working to not just but the setback behind him, but also recover his full strength and match-fitness.

Lukaku had initially been keen to return to training with Inter after little or no vacation, but he and the club decided that he would be given around a week off as with all players returning from the World Cup in Qatar.

The thinking is that both the physical as well as mental rest will be important after the disappointment of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old should be back in training with the rest of the squad next weekend, however.

Then, Lukaku will use the next few weeks to gradually build up his physical condition and get back up to the speed, in the hopes that he can finally be at his absolute best when the Serie A season returns with a clash with league leaders Napoli on January 4.
