Inter wingback Federico Dimarco is expecting that getting striker Romelu Lukaku back into fitness and form will be a vital development for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the team’s 4-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg in a friendly, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old stressed the importance of having the Belgian back in attack as the team prepare for their return to Serie A.

After a disappointing World Cup in Qatar that saw Lukaku fail to get back to fitness in time to make an impact for Belgium, the 29-year-old is ready to return to Inter training.

The Belgian should link up with the rest of the team in Milan this weekend in Milan after they return from their training retreat in Malta.

Lukaku and his teammates will be able to take advantage of the next few weeks to get back up to speed tactically, and Dimarco has no doubt that fitting Lukaku back into the team will have a big impact.

“I think that he will have to work hard to help the team like he did in his first spell here, his return will be important,” he said of the Belgian.

Of the return to training after a short break, Dimarco said that “We were away for ten days, it was also perfect because we recovered a bit after playing a lot over the past few months.”

“Now we have to work slowly so we can get right back on track starting on January 4.”
