Legendary former Ajax and Napoli defender Ruud Krol feels that Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries has really found his feet while playing for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper La Stampa in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Dutchman praised his countryman for the growth that he has made since joining Inter from PSV during the summer of 2021.

Dumfries had already started to emerge as a key player for the Dutch national team shortly before he made the move to Inter.

The wingback had held down a starting role for the Oranje at Euro 2020, and then he joined the Nerazzurri from PSV to replace Achraf Hakimi shortly after.

The Dutchman did not immediately look fully at home at Inter, as his form was not always consistent, and Matteo Darmian was often preferred on the right flank.

However, it only took Dumfries a few months to really settle in and find his feet in Inter’s team.

Now, the 26-year-old looks to be in some of the very best form of his career, for both the Nerazzurri and for the Dutch national team where he is in the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Qatar.

“He’s become a player who makes himself heard, dictates the pace,” Krol noted of Dumfries.

“At Inter, he has really come into his own by finding an awareness of the game that he’d previously lacked.”
