Inter are ready to make the loan of defender Francesco Acerbi from Lazio a permanent deal next summer if the 34-year-old’s performances continue to be strong over the rest of the season.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri would be ready to sign Acerbi permanently, although not for the €3.5 million purchase option in his current loan deal from the Biancocelesti.

Acerbi is only on loan from Lazio this season, although his deal contains a purchase option for Inter to sign him permanently for a fee.

Coach Simone Inzaghi is very keen to keep Acerbi past the end of the current season, as he had been one of the main advocates of signing the 34-year-old this season in the first place, and continues to be happy with the player’s performances.

Acerbi continuing to perform at the same level for the remainder of the current campaign would be a major factor in Inter deciding whether or not to try and sign him permanently.

In the event that the Nerazzurri do move to sign Acerbi permanently, they would have no intention of paying the full €3.5 million fee specified by the purchase option in his deal.

However, given the player’s age and the fact that his contract with Lazio runs out at the end of June 2024, the Nerazzurri expect that they would be able to sign him for considerably less than that.
