Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries has revealed that conversations with his club and international teammate Stefan de Vrij were important for him to improve his concentration.
Speaking to Dutch news outlet NU.nl, via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old highlighted the important role that de Vrij played in the development of the mental side of his game.
When Dumfries arrived at Inter from PSV in the summer of 2021, he found one familiar face in the form of Dutch national teammate Stefan de Vrij.
The 26-year-old has spoken about the importance that de Vrij had in helping him settle in at Inter on numerous occasions in the past.
He noted that the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender played a particularly important role in allowing him to stay switched on throughout matches, something that he considered to have been a fault in his game at times earlier on.
When Dumfries arrived at Inter, there was no question regarding his talent, but some questions about his overall game, something which the Dutchman has put behind him.
For his part, Dumfries feels that de Vrij deserves a lot of credit for his role in this improvement.
“Earlier on, I was another player,” the wingback said, d”uring a match I could be completely unfocused or absent.”
“Then I thought about it, I looked around a bit, and I returned to concentrate on what I was doing.”
“I talked about improving this with Stefan de Vrij, who is completely different in that respect,” he added.
