Inter are targeting Torino defender Kofi Djidji and Roma defender Chris Smalling on free transfers next summer in the event that any defenders currently in the squad leave.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have identified the Serie A duo as possible replacements in their backline.

At the moment, Inter are working to secure the futures of various players in their backline.

Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, and Danilo D’Ambrosio all see their current contracts run out at the end of June 2023, whilst Francesco Acerbi is only on loan until the end of the season.

In Skriniar’s case, a new contract is a priority, whilst extending the deals of de Vrij and D’Ambrosio, and making Acerbi’s loan move permanent are also on the agenda, if less pressing matters.

In the event that de Vrij or Acerbi were to depart, Roma defender Smalling would be one of the first names on Inter’s list to reinforce the central position in the back three.

Meanwhile, if a new contract is not agreed with D’Ambrosio, then Djidji would be a target to back up Skriniar on the right side of the defense.
