Former Inter striker Alessandro Capello feels that the Nerazzurri was the right place for him in 2013 even though he was not able to establish himself in an Inter shirt.
Speaking to Italian news outlet Lacasadic.com, the 26-year-old noted that he learned a lot and improved his game by modelling himself after Inter striker Diego Milito as well as other experienced players within the Nerazzurri’s squad.
Capello joined Inter as a youth player from Bologna in the summer of 2013.
The 26-year-old never quite made the grade at the Nerazzurri, and left to join Cagliari in 2014.
While under contract with the Rossoblu, Capello went out on a number of loan moves, whilst his most recent stint was at Carrarese.
From the striker’s perspective, moving to Inter was hardly a bad career move.
He notes how playing and training alongside many of the players in the Nerazzurri’s senior team, particularly Milito, was beneficial to him.
“It was a wonderful experience,” Capello said of his time at the Nerazzurri, “spending a year at Inter with some world-class players, it was a path that taught me a lot, and there are some indelible memories that I’ll always hold close.”
“Every now and then I think about them sometimes, because they’re part of my past and I am proud to have done all that when I was still very young.”
“I came through the Bologna youth system, and when the call from Inter arrived I didn’t have to think about it, when a team like that is interested you don’t even wait a day to think.”
“I accepted, and I think that I did well, and if I went back to that time I would do it again.”
“I came from an environment that was a lot smaller than Inter,” the striker noted.
Capello explained that “Initially I wasn’t supposed to be part of the first team, but then they called me to a training camp with all these top-class players.”
“I came in cautiously, trying to listen to whatever they told me and their advice, trying to learn as much as possible.”
Capello recalled that “I spoke more with forwards like Milito, Palacio, and Icardi, especially when we were practising.”
“They gave me technical advice on how to move to free myself from the man,” he added.
“I was always trying to steal a few moves from them.”
