Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that Inter’s priority during the next couple of transfer windows will be reinforcing their depth in defense.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Telelombardia, via FCInter1908, the journalist updated on what the Nerazzurri’s strategy is going to be in the transfer market, emphasizing the backline.
Inter currently have five or six senior players capable of playing in the back three, depending on whether Federico Dimarco is considered to be strictly a wingback or still a capable left-sided backup for Alessandro Bastoni in defense.
However, many of the defenders’ futures past the end of the current season are uncertain.
Milan Skriniar’s contract runs out at the end of June 2023, although the club are pushing hard to extend it.
Meanwhile, Stefan de Vrij and Danilo D’Ambrosio’s deals also run out next summer, whilst Francesco Acerbi is currently only on loan from Lazio with no certainty that he will be signed permanently when his loan deal ends.
The likes of Roma’s Chris Smalling and Torino’s Kofi Djidji are among the names recently linked in the event that any of the current defensive players are to be on their way next summer.
Biasin started by talking about the contract talks between Inter and Skriniar, stating that “There are ongoing negotiations, the player has an offer of €6 million net per season plus add-ons in front of him, and a meeting is schedule for next week which will be the final one.”
“By Christmas, Inter want a yes or a no,” he said of Skriniar’s situation.
“Inter’s next priority in the transfer market will be finding a defender who can complete the depth in the position, given Acerbi’s age, and we’ll see what happens with de Vrij, Bastoni, and Skriniar.”
Biasin also updated that “Dumfries may have suitors, but the club will decide on what to do with him starting next year.”
