Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries has come in for criticism for an underwhelming attacking display for the Netherlands in their quarterfinal loss to Argentina at the World Cup.

The 26-year-old Nerazzurri wingback received a score of just 5/10 in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, with his lack of an impact in the final third singled out for criticism.

Dumfries had been the Netherlands’ outstanding player in their 3-1 win over the US in the round of sixteen, scoring one of the Oranje’s goals and assisting the other two.

Against Argentina, however, the Inter player was kept quiet, unable to get time and space to control the ball in dangerous positions due to the defensive attention of Albiceleste left-back Marcos Acuna.

Accordingly, Dumfries’s impact was very limited going forward, whilst he also conceded a penalty from which Argentina scored their second goal of the match.
