Inter are in mourning after former vice-president Rinaldo Ghelfi, who served under ex-president Massimo Moratti throughout his tenure, passed away today.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ghelfi passed away on Sunday morning, with an official cause of death yet to be released.

The former director joined Inter in 1995 and remained in post under Moratti until 2014, when Moratti resigned as honorary president after previously selling the club to Erick Thohir.

Ghelfi made his name as the man behind the numbers during the former president’s tenure, as his accounting and financial approach allowed the club to challenge at the top of Serie A and for the Champions League.

Indeed, Ghelfi was responsible for numerous contract negotiations and renewals, and the extension to the contract of former Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho in the spring of 2009 is arguably his most significant.

The Portuguese tactician led Inter to an unprecedented treble in 2010, as the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto, Champions League, and Coppa Italia.

Ghelfi is described as being a private and quiet administrator, and an Inter fan since childhood after growing up in Milan.
