Inter are facing a threat from Juventus in their efforts to sign Roma centre-back Chris Smalling on a free transfer next summer.

According to British television broadcaster Sky Sports, and as reported by L’Interista.it, the Nerazzurri’s attempts to bring in the England international are being challenged by Juventus, who are also keen to secure his services.

Smalling is out of contract at the Stadio Olimpico in June and Roma are determined to keep him, with the option of an extension in place should he wish to trigger it.

However, the former Manchester United defender has not made clear his intentions yet, and should he depart the Giallorossi, he would find suitors in Serie A.

Inter are looking to reinforce the heart of their defence due to the expiring contracts of Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij, whilst there is no guarantee that Francesco Acerbi will sign permanently following his loan move from Lazio.
