Inter centre-back Francesco Acerbi is facing an uncertain future at the club despite coach Simone Inzaghi being keen to retain him at the end of his loan spell.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the defender is due to return to parent club Lazio at the end of the season unless Inter trigger the €4 million buyout clause that was agreed upon his temporary switch in August.

Whilst Acerbi has impressed in Inzaghi’s three-man defensive system, the Nerazzurri are reluctant to part with that fee for a player who will turn 35 in February and is currently earning €2.5m per season.

With Inzaghi wanting to keep hold of Acerbi after previously working with him at Lazio, Inter will look to renegotiate the terms of the agreement with Biancoceleste president Claudio Lotito.

The former Sassuolo defender has fallen out of favour at Lazio and endures a tense relationship with the club, so Inter are hopeful that Lotito will lower his demands in order to ensure Acerbi departs.
