Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be used as a second striker in the Nerazzurri’s first Serie A match after the World Cup against Napoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Armenian could play as part of an attacking duo with Edin Dzeko if Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are not fit for the clash with the Partenopei.

Mkhitaryan has already shown his versatility with Inter and Roma, playing everywhere from the deepest midfield position to the attack.

The 33-year-old has mostly been used as a mezzala by Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi this season, but was also tested out as a second striker or attacking midfielder in recent training sessions and friendly matches.

Lukaku is back in training but there is no guarantee that he will be in top condition when the club season resumes next month,

Meanwhile, Martinez could go all the way to the World Cup final with Argentina, which would mean that he would have relatively little time to prepare for the return of the club season with Inter after his post-World Cup vacation.

Accordingly, if both of the pair are deemed by Inzaghi not to be ready to play against Napoli, Mkhitaryan could start in attack.
