Inter coach Simone Inzaghi could decide to go with a duo of Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko in attack in Inter’s first Serie A match back after the World Cup break against Napoli.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzett.it, who report that the Nerazzurri coach is considering between Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to partner Lukaku in attack in the event that Lautaro Martinez is not yet ready to start following his participation in the World Cup.
Right now, Inzaghi’s hope is to have a fully fit Lukaku at his disposal for Inter’s match against Napoli, with the next weeks of training and friendlies to be used to get the Belgian back to the right condition to start against the Partenopei.
As far as who starts alongside the 29-year-old, that could depend on the fitness of Martinez.
The Argentine is currently still at the World Cup with Argentina, who have reached the semifinal of the tournament, and could yet make it to the final.
Should the late return of Martinez from Qatar mean that he is not adequately prepared to start against Napoli, the Inzaghi could decide to test out the pairing of Lukaku and Dzeko for the first time in that match.
Alternatively, Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be used as a second striker or an attacking midfielder from the start.
