Inter’s Curva Nord ultras group have confirmed the dissolution of the Boys subgroup and other ultras subgroups.
Writing in a statement on their official social media account, via FCInterNews, the Nord explained their rationale for the change in the wake of former prominent ultra Vittorio Boiocchi’s death, and that from now on there will only be one banner under which the group will organize.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported, via FCInterNews, that the Boys subgroup would be dissolved.
The Boys, founded in 1969, had been the oldest subgroup of ultras remaining in Italy, following the dissolution of AC Milan’s Fossa dei Leoni in 2005.
Other well-known groups including Lazio’s Irriducibili and Juventus’s Viking subgroups had already disbanded, with the Boys being the most prominent one remaining.
However, in the aftermath of former prominent ultra Boiocchi’s death, and the scandalous scenes in which regular matchgoing fans were forced out of the north stand of the San Siro as part of a tribute to him, attention has been drawn to the Nord and specifically to the Boys.
This has prompted reflection within the Ultras group, who have confirmed that there will be no more representation of the Boys group, and instead a single Nord banner, whilst the style of matchday support is likely to become less extreme.
The group writes that it is “The beginning of a new era, of a single banner that will represent all of us and our identity from the very beginning: Curva Nord Milano 1969.”
“Starting from the match against Napoli, all groups in the north stand will be behind this banner – every group will remain in place but under a single banner.”
