Inter are not seeing the best out of Romelu Lukaku and the striker is unable to contribute unless he is in peak physical condition, according to Italian journalist Marco Nosotti.

The Belgium international returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea in August but has suffered an injury-hit season, with a thigh strain ruling him out for much of the campaign and a follow-up injury putting his World Cup place in doubt.

Although the former Everton striker did make it to Qatar, he endured a dreadful tournament as he missed glorious chances and saw Belgium eliminated in the group stage, prompting Nosotti to criticise him on Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia yesterday, as reported by FCInter1908.it.

“Inter lack the best Lukaku, the one seen at the World Cup cannot play his game if he’s not in perfect physical condition,” Nosotti claimed.

“Other players, even in other parts of the pitch, can hide if they’re not in shape, but he can’t.

“Inter need the best Lukaku to have variation further up the pitch and finish off their moves, they had to find other solutions such as putting Hakan Calhanoglu in place of Marcelo Brozovic,” he added.

Lukaku has made five appearances for Inter since his return to the club, netting twice, having previously struck 64 goals in 95 games during his first spell, between 2019 and 2021.
