AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is hoping that his opposite number Romelu Lukaku can be fully fit for the Milan derby clash in the Supercoppa Italiana next month.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, the Swede wished Lukaku well for the match, despite some well-known history between the pair in the Milan derby in the past.

Ibrahimovic and Lukaku were the protagonists of a famous flashpoint during a Coppa Italia quarterfinal clash in 2021.

The pair exchanged heated words, and it was the Rossoneri striker who was sent off following an altercation that had begun to boil over, headbutting the Inter striker.

Nonetheless Ibrahimovic, formerly of Inter as well as Juventus, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United, is hoping that Lukaku can be back and ready for the next meeting between the two teams.

Inter face their city rivals in the Supercoppa Italiana match on January 18, and it could well be the case that both Ibrahimovic and Lukaku will be fit to lead the line for their respective teams yet again.

“I have nothing to tell him,” the Swede said when asking about Lukaku.

“I hope that he’s fit and can be available when we meet in the Supercoppa Italiana,” he added, “which is the same wish I make for myself.”
