Inter have been positively surprised at the speed and ease with which goalkeeper Andre Onana has made the starting position his own since arriving in the summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri had been expecting the adjustment period to be longer for the 26-year-old.
Onana made the switch to Inter on a free transfer from Ajax with big expectations.
The Cameroonian had the task before him of cementing himself as the long-term successor to captain Samir Handanovic in goal.
Given the influence and importance of Handanovic, and the transition period to a new league, the club had been prepared for there to be a fairly lengthy period in which the former Ajax keeper settled in, with Handanovic still the starting keeper.
However, in reality it only took Onana a couple months to make the starting role his own.
The 26-year-old has settled in well to life in Milan, and become fully integrated with his teammates, which has made things easier for him on the pitch.
In terms of his performances on the pitch, furthermore, the Cameroonian has impressed everyone around Inter both with the quality of his individual displays and with his stylistic fit with the rest of the team.
This had been something that the Nerazzurri were hoping would emerge gradually, but were not necessarily expecting to see come so far along after only a few months.
