Inter striker Lautaro Martinez could still start in attack for the Argentine national team in this evening’s World Cup semifinal clash with Croatia, as part of a trio with Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.

This according to Argentine news out Ole, via FCInterNews, who claim that Albiceleste coach Lionel Scaloni is considering three possible setups for the match, one of which could see Martinez return to the starting eleven.

Martinez has been out of Argentina’s starting eleven for their past three matches at the World Cup.

After starting group stage matches against Saudi Arabia and Mexico, the 25-year-old Nerazzurri striker was benched for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez in the team’s final group stage match against Poland as well as knockout clashes with Australia and the Netherlands.

While it is quite possible that Martinez could once again be benched in favour of Alvarez in this evening’s match, according to Ole there is a possibility that he could instead start alongside the Manchester City striker.

According to Ole, the pair could play as a strike pair in an attacking trio which would see Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi just behind them.
