It could be unlikely that Inter decide to sign defender Francesco Acerbi on a permanent basis from Lazio when his current loan deal from the Biancocelesti expires.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via L’Interista, who report that between a fee and wages the deal could be too financially burdensome for the Nerazzurri, whilst they could be more inclined to focus on younger players.

Acerbi is only on loan at Inter from Lazio.

The former Sassuolo defender joined on a one-season loan from the Biancocelesti on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the loan deal containing an option for the Nerazzurri to sign him permanently for around €4 million.

The Nerazzurri do not want to pay this full amount, however, and negotiating a discount with Lazio President Claudio Lotito could prove to be difficult.

Meanwhile, Acerbi still has €2.6 million net per season until the end of June 2025 on his contract with the Biancocelesti, which Inter could be disinclined towards paying.

Given the strategy at the Nerazzurri of focusing more on younger players, a significant investment in signing Acerbi permanently does not look all that likely.
