Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is set to start for the Croatian national team in their World Cup semifinal clash with Argentina this evening, whilst striker Lautaro Martinez is likely to be benched once again.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that Brozovic will keep his place having started every match at the tournament so far for Croatia, whilst Martinez will once again be left out of the starting eleven in favour of Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez.
Brozovic has been a key man for Croatia in their run to the semifinals in Qatar.
The 30-year-old has been in the starting eleven for group stage clashes with Morocco, Canada, and Belgium, as well as against Japan in the round of sixteen and then Brazil in the quarterfinals.
There is little reason to think that the Nerazzurri midfielder will not keep his place against Argentina this evening.
Meanwhile, Martinez dropped out of Argentina’s starting eleven for Alvarez after disappointing performances against Saudi Arabia and Mexico in the Albiceleste’s opening two group stage matches.
The 25-year-old has come off the bench in all of his country’s subsequent matches at the tournament.
Despite having sent the Albiceleste through to the semifinals by scoring the decisive penalty in a shootout victory over the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, Martinez is unlikely to return to the starting eleven to face Croatia.
