Legendary former Inter striker Sandro Mazzola feels like, before a ball is kicked, a 2-2 draw against Napoli in January would not be a bad result.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster 1 Station Radio, via FCInterNews, the former striker gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s massive match on their return to Serie A action after the World Cup, and also spoke about the World Cup performances of Marcelo Brozovic and Lautaro Martinez.

Inter could hardly have a more significant fixture awaiting them on the other side of the World Cup break.

The Nerazzurri will host league leaders Napoli in a match that could either give them a way back into the Serie A title race, or see the Partenopei pull well clear at the top of the table.

A draw would see the gap remain between the two sides in the table, although it wouldn’t grow larger, and for his part, Mazzola would be willing to take it.

“I’d take a 2-2 draw at San Siro,” the former striker said.

“At the beginning I don’t think the same quality will be evident on the pitch, there will be a lot of different situations and we’ll have to see what condition the players are in and if they’ll lose energy during the match.”

Of Brozovic’s World Cup, Mazzola said that “I like Brozovic a lot as a footballer, he’s had in a great tournament.”

Of Lautaro he said that “Lautaro sometimes looks a bit out of sorts, but he’s an excellent player.”

“The pressure to perform in certain moments seems to weigh on him,” he said of Martinez.

“His negative periods are the result of some aspect of his character which is unable to bear that kind of pressure,” Mazzola opined.
