Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is likely to make his decision on Inter’s contract extension offer based on what interest emerges in signing him from teams outside of Italy.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Dutchman will wait and see what the market for him looks like, particularly in the Premier League, before deciding whether or not to extend his stay at the Nerazzurri.

Inter have already made their initial contract extension offer to de Vrij and his representatives.

The Nerazzurri are keen to keep hold of the 30-year-old former Lazio and Feyenoord defender past the end of June 2023.

Inter’s offer on the table would see de Vrij’s wages lowered from the €4.2 million net per season that he currently earns.

Meanwhile, the player is hoping that he can earn more than this amount.

De Vrij is still considering accepting a new deal, but he will take some time to see which other clubs would be interested in signing him on a free transfer first.
