Former Inter CEO Ernesto Paolillo expects that it is still only a matter of time before the current owners of the Nerazzurri sell the club.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the former executive stressed the view that the debt problems and the interest rates that the club are facing will make the ownership of Suning untenable sooner or later.

Suning have so far maintained control of Inter despite persistent rumours that they could sell the club over the past couple of years.

However, this has not meant that the rumours have gone away, and on the contrary reports have frequently emerged that a sale of the Nerazzurri may not be too far away at hand.

For Paolillo’s part, the former executive feels that there are clear reasons why, however it may take place, a sale will almost certainly be in Inter’s future, to a new owner who can deal with the mounting debt issues.

“I think that a sale is inevitable,” he argued.

“If we look at the size of the company’s debt, and especially the interest rates, it will be difficult to continue on under these conditions without a major refinancing, which at the moment Zhang is unable to do,” he explained.
