Inter are breathing a sigh of relief after initial tests revealed that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has not sustained an injury whilst on international duty with Croatia at the 2022 World Cup.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the midfielder has avoided a muscular injury to his left thigh after being withdrawn in the second half of Croatia’s 3-0 defeat to Argentina in the semi-final on Tuesday.

Tests carried out by Croatia’s medical staff have revealed that Brozovic is suffering from fatigue in his thigh and has not damaged the muscle, but he will not feature in today’s third-place playoff match against Morocco as a precaution.

The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder suffered a similar injury during Croatia’s UEFA Nations League match against Austria in September, ruling him out for seven weeks, and there is a fear that playing today could lead to a relapse.

Brozovic is expected to return to training with Inter from Boxing Day and could be in line to start against Napoli on 4 January, after building up his match fitness during Croatia’s World Cup campaign.
