Inter will turn to Edin Dzeko as the lone striker when they face Real Betis in a friendly in Spain later today, as coach Simone Inzaghi tests a new system.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international will lead the line in a 3-5-1-1 formation in Seville.

With fellow forwards Romelu Lukaku and Joaquin Correa staying behind in Milan to work on their fitness, and Lautaro Martinez on international duty ahead of Argentina’s World Cup final match against France tomorrow, Dzeko is the only senior striker available.

However, he will be joined by former Roma teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the Armenian set to play in a more advanced role as the sole attacking midfielder playing off the striker.

Dzeko’s impact at Inter has been highlighted, with only his second of seven seasons at Roma statistically better than his current campaign for goals per minutes.

The 36-year-old has netted nine goals from 21 appearances this season, putting him on course for his second best season in Italy after his haul of 39 goals from 51 games for the Giallorossi in 2016/17.
