Inter U-18s defender Christos Alexiou has ambitions of breaking into the first team and is keen to make his mark as the fourth Greek player to represent the Nerazzurri.

The centre-back, who scored in the derby against AC Milan’s U-18s, joined the Nerazzurri from Atromitos in Greece for €350,000 this summer, and Inter would be due to pay a further €700,000 should he break into the first team and make a senior appearance.

In an interview with Transfermarkt, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Alexiou spoke of his confidence in becoming a first team player and making his mark at Inter, whilst also revealing his strengths and his style of play at the heart of the defence for the club’s youth team.

“Of course I would like to be the fourth Greek player to wear the Inter shirt. My dream is to play at a high level, and I believe that at Inter I can reach the highest level in the world,” the 18-year-old claimed.

“Arriving in Milan was an important step and a change that I am happy and proud of. My strengths lie in aggressiveness in defence, but also with high balls and in the construction of the game. I have improved technically, but I can be satisfied with the growth in general.”

The teenager then went on to reveal his role models, and pointed to Paris Saint-Germain’s Sergio Ramos and Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk as inspirational figures.

“As a child I had Sergio Ramos as an idol, now I also really like Virgil van Dijk . They are both very strong defenders and I really like the way they play and defend,” he concluded.

Inter have previously been represented by three Greek players, with Grigoris Georgatos making 46 appearances between 1999 and 2001, and national team captain Georgios Karagounis playing 36 times from 2003 until 2005.

Striker Lampros Choutos also played three times for the Nerazzurri in the 2006-07 season.
