Inter’s hopes of securing a new stadium, alongside AC Milan, are facing further obstacles as administrative factors hold up the move.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the two clubs have decided against commenting on the declarations made by Undersecretary for Culture, Vittorio Sgarbi, after he made clear his intention to prevent the current Stadio San Siro from being demolished.

Inter and Milan have viewed these comments as part of an ongoing political debate and are not willing to embroil themselves in this.

However, there is concern that being unable to demolish the San Siro and build the new stadium in it’s place could delay the project even further, with rising costs potentially making it unsustainable.

The project to demolish the San Siro and rebuild there is set to cost €1.3 billion, and this is viewed as a contributing factor in the reluctance of government ministers to commit to knocking the ground down.
