Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is expected to be named amongst the substitutes when Argentina face France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final this afternoon.

According to FCInterNews.it, the former Racing Club forward will not regain his place in the team for the match against the reigning world champions, and must hope to make an impact from the bench.

Martinez began the tournament as the Albiceleste’s preferred striker, partnering Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria in attack, but a series of underwhelming displays saw him lose his place.

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez replaced him and has caught the eye with four goals in the competition, whilst Martinez is yet to score.

Alvarez is expected to retain his place in coach Lionel Scaloni’s starting line-up, and will be paired with Messi in a two-man attack at the Lusail Stadium in Doha.

Argentina are seeking a first World Cup triumph since 1986, and a third win in their history.
