Italian media have praised Inter striker Lautaro Martinez for his overall display for Argentina in yesterday evening’s World Cup final win over France despite the fact that he missed several good chances.

The 25-year-old Nerazzurri striker was awarded a grade of 6.5/10 in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Libero, via FCInter1908, with his role in setting up Lionel Messi’s goal for 3-2 in extra time highlighted in particular.

Missing good chances became something of a theme for Martinez at the World Cup in Qatar, as his misses against Australia in the round of sixteen were particularly noted.

However, despite the failure the score or assist a goal in the tournament, the 25-year-old’s energy was always a useful weapon for the Albiceleste off of the bench.

For Libero, even though three missed chances against France were a mark against Martinez in the match, he did his job as an impact substitute, and it was also his shot that was saved by France captain Hugo Lloris before falling to the feet of Messi.
