Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels a special admiration for former Nerazzurri greats like Lothar Matthaus and Juergen Klinsmann on the basis of their achievements with his club and country.

Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, the 28-year-old named the pair as being among his favourite former players, as they modelled the kind of career that he hopes to have.

When Gosens joined Inter from Atalanta in January, he did not join as the first German player to represent the Nerazzurri.

The likes of Matthaus and Andreas Brehme won the Serie A title with Inter during the 1988-89 campaign, whilst Klinsmann joined them the next season from Stuttgart, helping the Nerazzurri to win the UEFA Cup in the 1990-91 season.

Gosens is well aware of this legacy of German players at Inter, and for his part they are among the players to have become a particular inspiration for him in the game.

“I’ve always looked up to that generation of players like Lothar Matthaus and Juergen Klinsmann,” he said.

“For us Germans, they are idols because they won everything with the national team, and also with Inter.”
