Bayern Munich could move to sign Inter-linked Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer in January if they are unable to bring Alexander Nubel back from his loan spell at Monaco.

This according to German broadcaster Sky Sports Deutschland, who reported this afternoon via FCInterNews that the 33-year-old Swiss international is a target for the German champions to fill in for the injured Manuel Neuer.

Inter are targeting Sommer as a possible free transfer opportunity for next summer, given that he will be available on a free transfer at the end of his current contract with Gladbach.

The 33-year-old is seen as a possible low-cost opportunity to replace captain Samir Handanovic should the Slovenian depart at the end of his own deal.

However, Bayern may not even wait until the summer to sign Sommer.

Given that Bayern captain Neuer is set to miss the rest of the current season with injury, the Bavarians are in need of a replacement for the rest of the season.

The German champions could work to bring back Nubel from his loan spell with Monaco, but if they are unable to do so could try to sign Sommer in the January transfer window.
