Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello feels that the new stadiums built in Qatar for the World Cup this year can be an inspiration as Inter and AC Milan look to build their own new structure.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia at the Nerazzurri’s Christmas party, via FCInterNews, the executive spoke highly of the stadiums that have been built for the World Cup, and talked about the progress of the new stadium plans in Milan.
Inter and Milan are keen to get things moving along on their new stadium plans to replace the San Siro.
Apart from modernizing their infrastructure and increasing revenues, the clubs will hope to build a stadium which makes a strong visual impression.
In this respect, the clubs can take some inspiration from the structures that were built to host the World Cup.
For his part, Antonello was impressed by these stadiums.
“I was in Doha for the ECA Board, and I had the opportunity to watch two quarter-finals in modern and avant-garde venues,” the executive said.
“The example from Qatar who have provided an innovative stadium experience compared to what we’re used to, can be taken in Milan and elsewhere,” he continued.
“We hope to be able to build our new stadium after the indications that we’ve received from the City Council.”
Antonello explained that “Our benchmark is to have a modern stadium like those in the Premier League, we draw inspiration from Tottenham’s, which is the most modern.”
“On Thursday the City Council will give a political address which can be another important moment for us.”
“We will implement their suggestions, but if they give indications that it will be impossible to build in place of San Siro, then our Plan B will become Plan A.”
“We want to give the city a modern stadium that makes us competitive at the European level.”
“There are always Plan B solutions which can become Plan A,” he continued, “we’ve identified some areas, and as soon as we have clarity on the San Siro issue, we would be ready to implement alternative solutions.”
