Inter would be more inclined to extend the contract of captain Samir Handanovic than to try and replacement for the Slovenian next summer.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri would like to agree a new deal with the 38-year-old, but only at the right terms and only if he agrees to continue to be the backup to Andre Onana in goal

Handanovic’s current contract is set to run out at the end of June 2023.

Given that the captain has dropped down in the pecking order to being the backup option to summer arrival Onana, it is not clear whether he will decide to extend his deal.

Should the Slovenian leave Inter, then a new signing will be sought to replace him as Onana’s backup.

Borussia Monchengladbach keeper Yann Sommer has been one of the main names linked in this regard.

However, for the Nerazzurri’s part, their preference would be to agree a new contract extension with Handanovic, although only at the right terms.
