Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that striker Romelu Lukaku is starting to show that he will be capable of making a big impact over the rest of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old gave an optimistic appraisal of the Belgian’s form and fitness, and also praised the team for finding their spirit of unity again after a tough start to the season.

Inter will be hoping that Lukaku can finally decisively put his fitness problems from the first half of the season behind him decisively.

The 29-year-old has certainly proved that he can be a devastating player in attack for the Nerazzurri in the past, but was barely able to even play over the first part of this season.

The question for the rest of the campaign will not just be whether Lukaku is able to play, but also whether he can get back to his best.

“We know the kind of player Romelu is, he proved it when he was with us before,” Bastoni said.

“Unfortunately, over the first part of the season he was unable to contribute much due to injury, but now we’re confident that he can make a big contribution,” he continued.

Bastoni also noted that “The problem in the first part of the season for us was that we lacked unity, but now we’ve found it again and we’re ready for Napoli as well as for the round of sixteen in the Champions League.”
