Optimistic signs have come out of a pre-Christmas meeting between Inter directors and defender Milan Skriniar’s agent.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri held a meeting with the Slovakian’s representative Roberto Sistici which lasted around two hours, and have scheduled the next talks for January.

The contract negotiations between Inter and Skriniar have gone on in fits and starts, with the defender’s response to the club’s contract having been delayed despite the expectation that it would arrive by Christmas.

This has led to pessimism within the club that the 27-year-old former Sampdoria defender would accept the offer that is on the table.

However, according to the Gazzetta, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio have held a meeting with Skriniar’s agent Sistici.

The aim was for the meeting to be very low-key and avoid much attention so as to work quietly and calmly on the negotiations.

According to the Gazzetta, the mood at Inter regarding the negotiations is more optimistic now after having held this latest round of talks.

The decision between the Nerazzurri and Sistici was for the negotiations to be put on standby, and then resumed after the holidays.

Accordingly, the next meeting is set for sometime in January.
