Former Inter goalkeeper Tommaso Berni feels that the loss of a player like Milan Skriniar would be a particularly heavy blow because of how long it has taken the Nerazzurri to build the team that they have done.

Speaking to Italian news outlet L’Interista, Berni noted that the key role that the Slovakian has in this Inter team is one that took a long time for him to come into, which would be why losing him would be such an issue.

Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria during the summer transfer window of 2017.

The Slovakian had emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in Serie A during his loan season with the Blucerchiati, but was not yet the finished article.

During his five seasons and counting with the Nerazzurri, Skriniar has grown into one of the best defenders in Serie A, and arguably in Europe.

For this reason, losing the 27-year-old at his peak would be very tough for Inter.

“I’m no longer in the locker room, so I don’t know how the relationship is between the club and him,” Berni said.

“I know how much Skriniar cares about Inter and how happy he is in Milan.”

“I know what an important role he plays at Inter,” Berni continued.

“It took us years to create a solid group that’s capable of winning trophies,” he went on.

“The advice I’ve always given is that certain players shouldn’t be allowed to leave lightly,” Berni said.

“But we’ll have to see what the situation at the club is.”
