An injunction to designate the San Siro as a protected site could stand in the way of Inter and AC Milan’s new stadium plans in the area.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, who report that an effort is being made to place an injunction on demolishing the existing San Siro, which could force the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri to build outside the city of Milan.

Inter and Milan have secured the approval of the City Council of Milan to build their new stadium, albeit with some changes to their plans requested.

It will be up to the clubs to respond to the Council’s requests, which is expected for next month.

However, a further delay could take place if opponents of demolishing the San Siro, a key component of the club’s plans to build a new stadium in the area, are able to obtain an injunction against demolishing the stadium, something which they tried and failed to do in 2020.

If the San Siro is protected from demolition, then Inter and Milan could be forced to build elsewhere.
